Our School by the fifth grade
Saint Agnes School is a Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia school. It is 138 years old. We have about 350 students at our school in grades Pre school through eighth grade. Our faculty has about 27 teachers.
We go to school 180 days a year from September through June. We do have snow in our area. The temperature averages 86 F in the summer and 22F in the winter. Before Christmas, we had 20 inches of snow. Snow days are one reason that school is cancelled. Other reasons are Holy days, and teacher in-service days.
We wear uniforms to school. Boys wear blue pants, shirts, ties and sweaters. Girls wear blue plaid jumpers with blouses up till sixth grade where they switch to skirts, blouses and sweater. There are no lockers in our school. Our school mascot is a Stag, which is a deer. We have many deer in our area. Other animals you might see would be squirrels, rabbit, fox, raccoons and ground hogs.
At our school we learn many things. Math, Science, Language Arts, Spelling, Reading, Social Studies, Computer, Library, Art, and Physical Education. Most importantly we learn Religion and how God is a part of our lives. We do have school pets. In fifth grade we have meal worms, fish, and hermit crabs. We have special programs like First in Math. We do Math and compete with other Catholic schools. We also have Reading Olympics in the Spring with other county schools. There are 46 students in the fifth grade this year. We have two classes of each grade. The West Chester Police department comes for DARE which is Drug Abuse Resistance Education. We do take standardized tests. Our school has a hot lunch program where everyone eats the same thing. You can also bring your own lunch. Fridays we get to buy pizza.
West Chester is very close to Philadelphia and Delaware. The Delaware River and Brandywine Creek are not far away. We root for the Philadelphia Phillies. Eagles, Flyers and 76ers. The capital of Pennsylvania is Harrisburg.
We look forward to “Oh the Places You’ll Go” coming to our school. Read America Day is celebrated by reading as a school. We plan to share Dr. Seuss in a grand way this year!
